hello world,

it's me, huixin.

my love romance with the sewing machine

i love to sew. ever since 14. i would climb through the windows of the home economics room in school countless times during recess to finish up my first sewing project. i remember bundles of thread getting caught in my canvas shoes, and never wanting to leave the room. my first sewing project was hideous. it was a denim sling bag with a flowerpot cross stitch sewn on its flap. after handing it in to the fusspot teacher, i ripped off the ugly strap and the cross stitch. it is now sister's makeup bag. im proud of myself, because i was the one whom you went to for help when you didn't know how to thread bobbins, or when the sewing machine went haywire. i was mighty good at making those crazy abused machines work, for some reason.

i got my first sewing machine from my mom at 17. interestingly, my mom never knew how to work one, so i was the family seamstress. i've altered my dad's/brother's shirts, sewn curtains, bags, purses, clothes, and had my share of hits and misses (mostly). you wouldn't wanna know the number of clothes i've destroyed with the seam ripper. i love altering my clothes!

why a selling journal?

i've decided that i'm going to make things for sale, because i've finally gotten around to SERIOUSLY trying out things that i love so that i'll have an inkling of post graduation plans. and also, all proceeds from the sale of stuff will go towards a spanking new DSLR! i know, this comes so late! but i figured i really need one for my taiwan exchange (crosses fingers) this winter for my exchange, and to aid in another mini business plan of mine. heh! plus, i need a camera that would do my handicrafts justice!

support poor artist (aka me wtf)

all items for sale on this blog are 100% handmade, designed by me. i may have inspirations as i trawl craft blogs alot and am crazy about japanese handicraft. when i set my sights on creating something, i really put in my all. and thus, please please i beg you not to negotiate on the prices (unless it's for a premium of course heh). personally i find it kinda demeaning to the creator, so i would feel offended. i set my prices based on the cost of materials, and the effort that i put in to designing and creating the piece.

why 7whitetees huh huh huh?

the name 7whitetees was chosen for 2 simple reasons.
1) i love white tees, and own many, because they always turn yellow in the wash.
2) a white tee is something so simple, but yet is a canvas for so many kinds of creations. splash a little neon paint and it becomes crazy, cut up an oversized tee, use twine as a waist band and it becomes a little white dress. i just love the versatility of a white tee, and it is symbolic of the canvas for creativity.

7 was added in front because whitetees was taken. 7, because it is the most significant of the nine numericals, because it is holy (so i get some good luck and fengshui) and the most rememberable of course.
